Interior design
Dongduk woman's University
Seoul - South Korea
In March 2007, we started the Eung-bong-dong experience. I had the responsibility to select a topic for Dongduk Woman’s University senior class interior design studio in Seoul. The result of the studio was displayed in the degree show, October 2007. Cycling down to the river, I discovered Eung-bong-dong.
It's a neighborhood, sort of like a village, that is located in a central part of Seoul, even though it's difficult to define an exact center of Seoul. Eung-bong-dong is separated by the city by Eun-bong-dong mountain, a hill with a nice pagoda at the top, by the river and the subway. This part of the city runs along the river, and is divided by a high-density traffic street. The isolation, the few points of access, the hill, the narrow street and stairs, and the low houses make this neighborhood different from others. The context was so important that the village was the first inspiration to transFORM this neighborhood starting “in” and going “out”.
